Students pursuing a graduate degree in the UGA History Department have access to several types of funding. Nearly all doctoral students and most of our master’s students receive departmental teaching assistantships. Typical funding packages provide up to six years of support for PhD students and two years for MA students. When considering offers of financial support, we encourage prospective students to weigh the length of our funding period, which surpasses what most history departments offer, our moderate workloads, and the low cost of living in Athens, Georgia.
