TOEFL English Language Proficiency Scores Are REQUIRED for ALL International Applicants (non-US citizens), and Non-Native English Speakers: Unlike the general instructions from the Graduate School regarding these test scores, our department requires recent (not older than two years) official standardized English Language Proficiency Scores from ALL applicants who are non-native English speakers, regardless of any previous degrees from English speaking insitutions. We only accept TOEFLiBT scores. Use Institution Code 4854 (the same as the Institution Code for GRE scores). The ONLY exception made, where students do not need to submit scores, is when a student has received a full four year BA from an accredited institution within the United States. You must email the department at socadvis@uw.edu to obtain this exception. Please be sure to watch your application and make sure that your TOEFL scores get attached to your online application. Note that they will not attach until a few days after you actually submit and pay for your application.

GRE scores: Request that ETS submits scores to the University of Washington (Institution Code 4854). To allow sufficient time for the reporting of scores, applicants should take the exam no later than October. The Sociology Department will only consider scores for tests taken within the past five years. GRE scores are required for both domestic and international applicants.
